Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2012 Preseason Schedule Announced
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 4/4/12
The National Football League today announced its 2012 preseason lineup, with a schedule for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that features home games against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, as well as road contests against the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins.
Tampa Bay travels to Miami to commence preseason play during Week 1 (August 9-13). The matchup continues a long-standing preseason tradition, as it is the 12th consecutive season and 27th time overall that the clubs will have met in exhibition play. The game also features the debut of two NFL head coaches, with Greg Schiano leading the Buccaneers and Joe Philbin directing the Dolphins. Tampa Bay has won six of the last 10 preseason meetings between the two franchises, including a 17-13 victory in 2011.
The Buccaneers’ home preseason opener will take place during Week 2 (August 16-20), when the Tennessee Titans visit Raymond James Stadium. The game will mark the first time that Tampa Bay has hosted Tennessee in the preseason since a 1989 tilt with the then-Houston Oilers.
In Week 3 of the preseason (August 23-26), Schiano’s Buccaneers will square off against Bill Belichick’s Patriots, as Tampa Bay hosts New England. This meeting denotes the fourth time in the past six preseasons that two teams have met in Tampa.
For the second consecutive year, the Buccaneers close their exhibition slate on the road at Washington. The preseason finale will provide a final opportunity for players to make a case for a roster spot, with reduction to the 53 active-roster players occurring September 1.

USF Renames Athletics Headquarters Lee Roy Selmon Athletics Center
TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 9, 2011) – The University of South Florida Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a request from President Judy Genshaft and Director of Athletics Doug Woolard to rename the campus’ intercollegiate athletic facility the Lee Roy Selmon Athletics Center in honor of the football great.
Genshaft announced the tribute Friday during funeral services for Selmon, 56, who died Sept. 4. Selmon – a former USF Director of Athletics and President of the USF Foundation Partnership for Athletics – is credited as the father of USF football for the leading role he played in developing the program and its continuing success.
“No matter what role Lee Roy had with USF, his greatest passion was the student-athletes,” Genshaft said.
“He wanted to make sure they graduated and left with the tools necessary to be smart, successful and committed to high character. His door was always open to any student-athlete. What better way for the university to honor Lee Roy today than to name the facility that is home to our student-athletes after USF’s ‘father of football’ Lee Roy Selmon.”
Selmon joined USF in 1993as assistant athletics director to build the university’s football program, leading its move into Conference USA and then into the Big East Conference. He served as USF’s Director of Athletics from 2001 to 2004.
A star for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Selmon was the first Buccaneer enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame in 1995 and inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988.
“We have had more than 3,500 USF athletes, as well as thousands of coaches, staff, parents, media and visitors enter this building since its inception,” Woolard said. “Lee Roy Selmon stands for everything that we desire in our student-athletes: integrity, academic excellence, compassion and competitiveness. Now and for perpetuity, our student-athletes will know the name on this building sets a standard for which they should constantly strive.”
The University of South Florida is a high-impact, global research university dedicated to student success. USF is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in the top tier of research universities, a distinction attained by only 2.2 percent of all universities. It is ranked 44th in total research expenditures and 34th in federal research expenditures for public universities by the National Science Foundation. The USF System has an annual budget of $1.5 billion, an annual economic impact of $3.7 billion, and serves 47,000 students in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland.
LEE ROY SELMON TRIBUTE LOCATION

September 5, 2011…Tampa, FL…The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, USF Bulls and Tampa Sports Authority have responded to inquiries from the public about placement of Lee Roy Selmon tributes.
The three organizations have designated a space at Raymond James Stadium for a temporary memorial to the beloved Selmon. People wishing to leave tributes to Lee Roy Selmon, the Hall of Fame Buccaneers player, USF Athletic Director and former TSA , are free to place flowers, cards or remembrances on the tree-shaded mound in the middle of the mass transit drop-off turnaround on Dale Mabry. Signage for the drop off location near the pedestrian footbridge crossing over Dale Mabry will be displayed Tuesday after 5 p.m., September 6. Drop-offs may begin Tuesday after 5 p.m. and continue through game day on Sunday, September 11. Press release via USF.
TAMPA – The University of South Florida’s regular-season finale against BIG EAST foe West Virginia on Thursday, Dec. 1 in Tampa will be broadcast on ESPN 3D, the network announced on Monday. In addition, the Bulls’ game at Pittsburgh on Thursday, Sept. 29 will be broadcast on ESPN 3D. USF is one of only a handful of teams that will have multiple games aired in 3D this year.
“I think that is pretty exciting,” said USF head coach Skip Holtz. “I’m not totally sure I understand everything that goes into 3D, but to have them come to Tampa and show Raymond James Stadium and our players will be exciting. We talk about television exposure as it relates to our program and this is just another sign of how South Florida is rising on a national level.”
This won’t be the first time the ESPN 3D crew hits Tampa. In 2008, they visited Raymond James Stadium when the Bulls hosted Kansas to test the development of its 3D broadcasts.
